Cybergenics, a company that sells weight loss and bodybuilding products, does not provide details about the ingredients in its Quick Trim supplements – or any of the products it offers for purchase. Dietary supplements can contain harmful ingredients, so it could prove dangerous to take any vitamin or herbal formula without knowing the contents. Talk to your doctor before trying Quick Trim or any other weight loss product.
Ingredients
An article on the Cybergenics website tells you essentially everything you need to know about successful weight loss: “Healthy eating, regular exercise and dedication is the most effective and consistent weight loss method around.” This is true, and it doesn’t cost you the $59.95 price set for a 14-day supply of diet pills with no proven benefits and unknown risks. The website also chose not to display the nutrition label for Quick Trim, so be sure to ask for this information before purchasing the product. Quick Trim is described as containing "thermogenic herbs, advanced antioxidants, enzymes, unique phytonutrients (and) effective lipotropics.”
Thermogenic Herbs
Thermogenic herbs include heat-producing plants and stimulants that are supposed to boost your metabolism. These include generally harmless herbs such as hot peppers and ginger but also herbs with amphetaminelike properties that have caused serious health problems, including heart attacks, seizures and liver disease, according to the United States Food and Drug Administration. Do not take any herbal remedies that promise to boost your metabolism without knowing the specific ingredients and researching their potential benefits and risks. If you’re interested in purchasing Quick Trim, ask the manufacturer for a detailed list of ingredients and research each of them.
Antioxidants and Phytonutrients
The antioxidants in Quick Trim may help protect you against disease, but they are not likely to help you lose weight. Antioxidants, found naturally in fruits, vegetables, nuts and grains, protect you against damage caused by free radicals – harmful molecules produced during the digestion of some foods and through exposure to tobacco smoke and other environmental toxins. Phytonutrients are beneficial compounds found in plants. One example is resveratrol, the substance in grapes and red wine that may offer protection against heart disease.
Enzymes and Lipotropics
Quick Trim contains enzymes, proteins that help your body break down foods and make blood clot. Enzymes are important to digestion and metabolism, but they occur naturally in your saliva, gastric juices, blood and everywhere in your body. You don’t need to obtain them from a supplement — most are just degraded in the stomach anyway. Lipotropics, found in plants, are supposed to help your body burn fat. They include potentially dangerous stimulants. Ephedra, for example, is a lipotropic. Talk to your doctor before using Quick Trim or any dietary supplement.
