Things That Can Happen With Health Insurance Coverage

Here is something I want to share because one day this might happen to you. Around ten years ago I was having all these symptoms that kept coming and going and I never made much thought of it. Being single and in good health I was not too concerned about it. I had a great job at the time and that came with great health insurance.

These symptoms flared up one night after being out for dinner and drinks. It was around 5 a.m. when I woke up to a serious abdominal pain, nausea and dizziness. Sweating and completely pail I made it to the bathroom. Moments later I found myself on the bathroom floor and remember feeling so bad that I passed out.

It was time to take action and a friend told me about a doctor that he highly recommended so I made an appointment. After a month of many tests and exams he had not given me any answers and began to doubt if he knew what he was doing. With a clean bill of health I was good to go.

Two months go by and an associate of mine and I decide to go into business together. I left my job and drop the insurance with it. I did pick up some good group coverage with an organization I belong to. Not long I start getting bills from all sorts of labs, and the hospital. Clearly this must be a mistake so I think nothing of it. Bills piling up but I still think that someone will get to it. Eventually I see a bill from the doctor’s office for my 4 visits. Now there starting to make me mad. Before I knew it the nasty letters start rolling in and to my surprise a phone call from the doctor’s office being very upset about paying my bill. Well of coarse all hell breaks loose.

I can go on and on about this medical roller coaster ride but I am going to make a long story short. Bottom line is that they never filed promptly to the insurance company and the office just thought it would go away as if none of it was covered. Once they filed I was already gone from that insurance company and they got everything denied. They blamed it on all kinds of things at first, an employee in billing, I gave them the wrong information, etc, etc. I knew they were wrong but what about all the test bills from their outside services, they were coming after me. The hospital visit was covered only because I filed with them at the front desk and that was my proof. Needless to say they were trying to collect for about six months before they ended up closing there office. For a while there I was worried. My symptoms cam back and it ended being diabetes and yes my insurance is covering it.
